The God of "Impossible" Choices

Many years ago, our church denomination went through MASSIVE doctrinal changes. We literally went from being a legalistic cult to being part of orthodox, evangelical Christianity. As I preached my way through this with a couple of churches, my best friend became a test of my faith and conviction.

Second only to my wife, this guy was someone I did everything with. We had run successful youth camps together, organized events at church, and just had fun. I loved him and his family dearly.

One week after worship, he came to me with tears in his eyes. “You’ve gotta stop preaching this Jesus stuff boss,” he cried, “I can’t take it anymore.” More comfortable with the Law of Moses and other teachings of our past plus feeling pressured by his wife’s family, Gary was coming unglued.

My choice was clear: Preach what I now knew to be false or lose my closest friend.

Unfortunately, we parted company…and that was was harder than I thought it would be....

Our Impossible Choices and Decisions

Over the years, I've had a few of these "impossible" choices to make. You know, the kind where it seems just too difficult, too painful, too risky, or too superhuman...and yet, you KNOW what the right choice is. You realize what you SHOULD do, but it's just too seems, well, impossible.

Jesus presented dilemmas like this to His disciples during His earthly ministry. At one point when they were complaining about one such teaching, Jesus admitted, "With men, this is impossible, but with God all things are possible (Matt. 19:26)."

Do you believe this?

Do you believe that the choices you have to make--especially the hard ones--are possible with God? Do you REALLY believe that with Christ in you, you can say "No" to that tempting relationship, that substance you're tempted to use illegally, that money you know you shouldn't take or spend, etc.?

It's true...he really is the God of the he impossible. Put this to the test in prayer today...I KNOW you'll be blessed!

To that end,

Pastor Joel
