A Cure for Stupid??

I had a good laugh while filling-out paperwork to purchase a handgun

recently. One of the questions required on the state application form was, “Are you a fugitive from justice?” “Yes,” I replied out loud to the clerk, “I’ve always planned to turn myself in at a gun store and today’s my big day!”

The clerk laughed too and then said, “Well actually, I DID have a guy answer ‘Yes’ once.” “Really?” I exclaimed! “Yep,” he continued, “the guy checked that box and so I asked him if it was a mistake and he said he actually WAS a fugitive from justice. I called it in, the cops came, and they arrested him.”

As the saying goes, “There is no cure for stupid.”

Or is there?

Proverbs is a book of wisdom. One of my favorite is, Proverbs 9:10: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."

Knowing God IS the "cure for stupid."

Now, I know this is counter-culture. Not only are we told that you either "have it" or you don't "have it," genetically; we're also told that there IS no God and thus seeking Him makes you more foolish.

Yet, history is replete with men and women who sought God and lived lives of wisdom where they and sometimes millions of others were blessed. Famous politicians, scientists, kings, and business leaders alike have found that Proverbs 9:10 is true!

And doesn't it make sense? Isn't it reasonable to believe that if we were created, nobody would know more about us and how we can succeed than the one who created us?! Since 95% of human beings believe in God in some form, shouldn't it follow that they'd seek him for understanding, wisdom, etc.?

Of course it does!

But sadly, most don't. What about you? Will you seek Him today and let his Word and the Holy Spirit enlighten you and "cure" the "stupid" tendencies we all have?

I pray you will...

To that end,

Pastor Joel
